Whirlpool Jet Boat Experience in Niagara Falls, Canada (VIDEO)

On our second trip to Niagara Falls, we decided we wanted to do something a bit more exciting and thrilling than the usual Maid of the Mist. After some googling, we came across the Whirlpool Jet Boat; a high speed jet boat that whisks you through the rapids of the Niagara River.

There are various meeting points around the Canadian and American side but I would recommend renting a car if possible! We paid around $20 for a taxi as the office and departure point is quite far from the Horseshoe fall itself. Once we arrived at our location, we listened to the safety talk, threw on our ponchos, life jackets and water shoes and hopped into the front row of the jet boat.

Get yourself in the front 2 rows for the most exciting (and wet) experience!

We were then sped along the river, learning a bit about the history of the river whilst heading towards the class 5 white-water rapids. The young and fun-loving company span us around the lake in circles, getting us drenched in preparation for the rapids.

I have never been so wet. Once in the rapids themselves, we were splashed and thrown around through the water, getting completely soaked but having a lot of fun. For those who love rides or adventure, this is a must when visiting Niagara Falls.

The company create personalised videos and pictures of your trip using GoPro cameras, with USBs available to purchase before or after the ride. We took our own GoPro on the boat with us (see the video below!) and they were happy with us bringing that along and film too – just keep your arms in the boat.

Bring a towel and a change of clothes if you can, you do get drenched. For a milder ride, sit nearer the back of the boat. Tickets cost $61 for an adult, $51 for a child – which is expensive in comparison to the other Niagara Falls attractions but incredibly worth it; this boat was one of the highlights of our America trip.

Whoa that looks so fun! Would love to visit Niagara Falls some day! You have a preference for a specific side?

      Hey Natasha!
The American side is much more peaceful whilst the Canadian side is full of touristy stuff! There is a busy street of wax museums and arcades which makes staying on the Canadian side so much fun! 🙂

This is totally my thing! I have done jet boating before on Sydney Harbour but Niagara Falls would be a whole different ball game. And yes I will admit we did the maid of the mist when we were last there lol

Oh my gosh this looks so awesome!! I went to Niagara Falls ageees ago when I was younger and all I did was the usual touristy boat ride… nothing like this. How cool is it that you can just rent a GoPro these days?? Awesome post, thanks for sharing 😀

I didn’t know about this! I can’t believe they bring you right under the rapids – very cool. It does look like a lot of wet & wild fun!

Love that video! Looks super professional! I have always wanted to try whitewater rafting, but I don’t like the idea of getting soaked with cold water with my clothes on ha! Might have to try it after all, as it looks super fun!

What a fun experience! I personally don’t like getting wet, but I think I might do it for these views. I didn’t even know you could get that close!

Hey Katie, loved this post! I’m actually from Toronto and am constantly in Niagara Falls. I’ve passed by the whirlpool tours so many times but have never gotten around to doing it yet! It’s great to hear that they talk to you about history on the tour and that the company covered the picture part of the process. Glad you enjoyed it so much!

That sounds awesome! I visited Niagara Falls last year and was thisclose to booking the jet boat excursion, but ultimately opted against it. I wasn’t sure if it would be too touristy or not. Based on your review I’ll have to do it the next time I go back!

I lived on an American side for a while and honestly I prefer the nature over there over casinos on the Canadian side, but I guess that’s what people want. I’m not sure if this jet was available back in 2012, but it looks like so much fun! I would love to try if I ever visit again 🙂

I am Canadian and frequent the Niagara Falls area as it is only 90 minutes away, I must say I do enjoy the ambiance we provide tourism with the various amenities and activities. Mind you, I am not overly fussed on Clifton Hill where all the museums are and Fallsview Casino, however, if you are comparing the falls and the experiences, I prefer my home. The boating does sound really fun though!

This looks so fun!! And a little bit terrifying lol. At least in the video everyone looks like they’re having a great time. I remember when I visited my favorite part was seeing up close how strong the water was. This definitely looks more fun than a typical tour.

This looks like so much fun! I was meant to go to Canada last year but we ended up going somewhere different in the end. I never thought of getting a jet boat so if I go one day I’ll definitely try this out 🙂

I am yet to get to the USA …but this will surely be on my list when I do come. How much does the ride cost? How old can a kid be to enjoy it?

I did the whirlpool jet boat when I was at the Niagara Falls as well, but mine has a domed window top so none of us got wet. I wish I took the one that gets me splashed too, it sounds so thrill and more fun!

Oh yeah we saw that one, it is a better option especially if it isn’t in the middle of the summer! We managed to get a cold after the jet boat because we got soaked! 🙂
