On our second trip to Niagara Falls, we decided we wanted to do something a bit more exciting and thrilling than the usual Maid of the Mist. After some googling, we came across the Whirlpool Jet Boat; a high speed jet boat that whisks you through the rapids of the Niagara River.
There are various meeting points around the Canadian and American side but I would recommend renting a car if possible! We paid around $20 for a taxi as the office and departure point is quite far from the Horseshoe fall itself. Once we arrived at our location, we listened to the safety talk, threw on our ponchos, life jackets and water shoes and hopped into the front row of the jet boat.
We were then sped along the river, learning a bit about the history of the river whilst heading towards the class 5 white-water rapids. The young and fun-loving company span us around the lake in circles, getting us drenched in preparation for the rapids.
I have never been so wet. Once in the rapids themselves, we were splashed and thrown around through the water, getting completely soaked but having a lot of fun. For those who love rides or adventure, this is a must when visiting Niagara Falls.
The company create personalised videos and pictures of your trip using GoPro cameras, with USBs available to purchase before or after the ride. We took our own GoPro on the boat with us (see the video below!) and they were happy with us bringing that along and film too – just keep your arms in the boat.
Bring a towel and a change of clothes if you can, you do get drenched. For a milder ride, sit nearer the back of the boat. Tickets cost $61 for an adult, $51 for a child – which is expensive in comparison to the other Niagara Falls attractions but incredibly worth it; this boat was one of the highlights of our America trip.
